2023 Subaru Forester Trims

Fresh off a redesign last year, the 2023 Subaru Forester continues with dynamic styling, crossover versatility, and hallmarks like standard all-wheel drive. The Forester's tall greenhouse provides sweeping outward visibility for the driver and a welcoming setting for five occupants.

When extra hauling duties are required, the Forester provides up to 74.2 cubic feet of cargo space (with the rear seat flattened). As always, the Forester is equipped with standard all-wheel drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance (9.2 inches for the Wilderness trim) for extra versatility as needed.

Base

The Base is set up with keyless entry, steering-responsive LED headlights with automatic on/off, automatic climate control, cloth upholstery, a manually adjustable driver’s seat (six ways), a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, and 17-inch steel wheels with covers. The Starlink infotainment system has a 6.5-inch touchscreen in this trim and is used to manage the smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and four-speaker sound system. Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist technology comes standard to add adaptive cruise control with lane centering, pre-collision braking and throttle management, lane departure and sway warning with lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking. There’s also a rearview monitor, a multi-airbag protection system, electronic stability control, traction control, and active torque vectoring (for more precise steering while turning).

Premium

The Premium is upgraded with proximity keyless entry, premium cloth upholstery, a ten-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, a panoramic moonroof, halogen fog lights, rear privacy glass, push-button ignition, roof rails, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated exterior mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The back seat offers enhanced comfort thanks to its recline feature; separate HVAC outlets for the row also keep second-row passengers at the ideal temperature. As far as infotainment upgrades, the Premium gets access to a Wi-Fi hotspot, an additional pair of speakers, and an expanded version of Starlink that includes emergency notification services. Hill descent control comes as an additional standard safety feature, but blind-spot monitoring with lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert must be added as an option.

Sport

The Sport has a different appearance with its trim-specific exterior accents, LED fog lights, and underguards on the outside and special sport-cloth upholstery on the inside. It also receives an enhanced all-wheel-drive system (with snow/dirt and deep snow/mud modes), paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience, a 6.3-inch driver information display with sport gauges, a leather-wrapped shift knob, a cargo-area tray, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Remote start is enabled starting at this trim level via the Starlink app. Some of the Sport trim’s options include an infotainment upgrade to an 8.0-inch screen, a nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and reverse automatic braking.

Wilderness

The Wilderness is also visually distinctive, this time with a rugged look accented by fender flares, side cladding, special underguards, LED fog lights, and trim-specific accents inside and out. Its capability is expanded with an additional half-inch of ground clearance, a skid plate for the engine, and all-terrain tires on 17-inch matte-black alloy wheels. Some of its other noteworthy features are enhanced-load roof rails (which can support a tent when the vehicle is parked), a full-sized spare tire, StarTex water-repellent upholstery, Wilderness-themed gauges, and aluminum-alloy pedal covers. Reverse automatic braking joins the driver-assist technology suite. The 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen becomes standard; navigation is available, as is a nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Limited

The Limited pushes the envelope on luxury with leather seats, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, body-color side mirrors with built-in turn signals, raised roof rails, and 18-inch alloy wheels. A Harmon Kardon sound system (nine speakers) and navigation are optional, although reverse automatic braking is not available on this trim. The Starlink system at this level also includes emergency services and remote start.

Touring

The Touring sits atop the Forester lineup amenities such as a heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats, a driver’s position memory system, LED fog lights, hand gesture-activated temperature controls, and LED lights for the cargo area. Reverse automatic braking is standard, as is a driver distraction mitigation system. Navigation and the nine-speaker Harman Kardon audio system are also included.
