2024 Subaru Crosstrek

Since debuting a decade ago, the Subaru Crosstrek crossover has risen to become the automaker’s best-selling model. Now, after more than a million Crosstrek units sold, Subaru has launched the third-generation version of this popular utility vehicle. This major redo consists of an all-new design, inside and out, plus improved technology. This is also the first model year that some Crosstrek units are being built at Subaru’s state-of-the-art factory in Lafayette, Indiana.

The adventure-ready exterior of the 2024 Crosstrek is dominated by a frameless hexagonal grille, prefacing a sculpted body and a broader stance. Not only does this rugged appearance help the new Crosstrek stand out in a crowded parking lot, but the revised shape better manages airflow, improving stability and handling. At the same time, a stiffer chassis and 8.7 inches of ground clearance keep the ride smooth and comfortable. Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive comes standard across the lineup and has been improved with a faster response time for the ultimate control. The 2024 Crosstrek also gets the same electronic power steering system found in the performance-oriented WRX.

Inside, the redesigned two-row cabin takes a passenger-centric approach that prioritizes space and comfort. The updated seats have been engineered to minimize fatigue, while improved sound reduction creates a quieter setting.

Trims and Powertrains

Buyers of the 2024 Crosstrek can choose from four trims: Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited. The Base and Premium have a 152-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, while the Sport and Limited get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 182 horsepower. All trims rely on a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to control the standard AWD system. Also, the Premium and above get a manual shift mode with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.

The Crosstrek has 19.9 cubic feet of cargo space, which can stretch to 54.7 cubic feet with the rear seat lowered. The Base and Premium are EPA-rated to achieve 27 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy estimates for the Sport and Limited change to 26 mpg around town and 33 mpg on the open road.

Base

The Base Crosstrek boasts an impressive array of features that surpass your typical entry-level offerings. Alongside essential amenities like manually adjustable front seats, cloth upholstery, and a four-speaker sound system, it surprises with automatic high beams, LED steering-responsive headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, HD Radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Adding to its appeal, Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology suite comes standard, providing adaptive cruise control with lane centering, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency steering.

Premium

A considerable step up from the base, the Premium receives proximity keyless entry, LED fog lights, roof rails, push-button ignition, a pair of USB-C ports, and a center armrest with cupholders in the backseat. Infotainment is taken to the next level as well with an 11.6-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker audio system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Premium is eligible for some noteworthy upgrades as well, such as heated side mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, a moonroof, heated front seats, a power adjustable driver’s seat, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Sport

The Sport introduces the more powerful engine along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, attention-grabbing yellow interior contrast stitching, and a useful retractable/removable cargo cover. It also gets heated side mirrors, a windshield wiper de-icer, and heated front seats and is eligible for a moonroof, power driver’s seat, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert as options.

Limited

If you’re seeking even more refinement, look to the Limited. It comes with a power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery with vibrant orange contrast stitching, reverse automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. You also have the option of outfitting it with integrated navigation, voice recognition for the infotainment system, and a premium 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

Wilderness

The Wilderness is in a league of its own. With the highest Crosstrek ground clearance of 9.2 inches and a robust 3,500-pound towing limit, it’s primed for adventure. Here’s a list of some additional attributes that enhance its rugged appeal: all-terrain tires, distinctive hexagonal LED fog lights, StarTex water-repellent upholstery, and stronger roof rails that can support up to 700 lb. at a standstill, meaning you can pitch a tent atop it for camping. Aside from that, it’s equipped similarly to the Limited, with the same driver-assist and infotainment technologies. The difference is that the Wilderness is not eligible for integrated navigation or voice recognition – just the 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
