2024 Subaru WRX TR

Subaru is introducing an all-new performance-focused trim – the TR – to its iconic WRX line for 2024. The automaker debuted the WRX TR earlier this year at Subiefest Florida, showcasing its enhanced capabilities and daring wide-body design.

The WRX has long been a favorite among driving enthusiasts, and the TR version should take that excitement to new heights. Diehard Subaru fans will recall that the TR variant first joined the WRX lineup in 2004 with track-tuned suspension upgrades and distinctive appearance packages created by the brand's motorsports division, Subaru Tecnica International (STI).

Missed by many during its lengthy absence, the WRX TR returns for 2024 as the new flagship performance edition. With a nod to the WRX’s legacy, the TR displays Subaru’s signature hexagonal grille accented by sleek C-clamp-style headlights. A wide hood scoop reinforces an assertive front end and blends with the car’s sculpted body lines.

Full details on the entire 2024 Subaru WRX range will be available closer to when the vehicle reaches dealers in early 2024. Until then, here are some highlights of the highly anticipated TR trim.

Engine and Performance

Power for the TR will come from the trusty 2.4-liter turbocharged Subaru Boxer four-cylinder engine used across the WRX line. It generates a stout 271 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, sending power to all four wheels via the Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system.

A retuned suspension will be unique to the TR trim, with stiffer springs and revised damping rates for flatter cornering and better body control. The steering has also been retuned for sharper turn-in and feedback. Look for larger four-wheel disc brakes featuring Brembo six-piston front and two-piston rear calipers for more stopping power. High-grip Bridgestone Potenza summer tires will be wrapped around exclusive 19-inch satin-gray wheels. The TR will also have a highly responsive active torque vectoring system to heighten performance.

Features and Equipment

The exterior of the WRX TR will build on the standard model's aggressive wide-body look with some trim-exclusive styling touches. These extras will include dark-gray foldable mirrors, a rear decklid spoiler, and a matching body-color roof antenna, all complementing the car's Performance Blue paint. Inside, Recaro sport seats trimmed in black Ultrasuede and red stitching will hold the front passengers through all the curves. The driver will appreciate the eight-way power-adjustable seat and flat-bottomed steering wheel covered in perforated leather. Keeping the WRX TR’s performance mission in mind, Subaru is keeping the power moonroof out of this trim, shaving weight and lowering the car’s center of gravity.

Safety Technology

In a first for manual-transmission WRXs, the latest version of Subaru's EyeSight driver assist technology is slated to come standard on the TR. This suite includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and throttle management, lane departure and sway warning, and lead vehicle start alert functions.

Infotainment

A Starlink 11.6-inch touchscreen will be the control center for the WRX TR’s infotainment setup. The supporting features are set to be wireless smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth for hands-free phone use and audio streaming, and a top-quality Harman Kardon audio system with plenty of speakers.
